Music Comes to the Clubs!
October 25th, 2012
Thanks to The Barber Foundation, we are able to provide music eduation to our Club members. Founded in 2008 by Marion Barber Jr., Marion Barber III and Dominique Barber, The Barber Foundation strives to provide much needed assistance for the ever growing need of America’s underprivileged youth.
Members from 1st to 12th grades will be able to audition for general music (1st through 4th grades), piano, guitar or chorus classes (5th grade and up). These classes will be offered once a week to members who express a desire and commitment to attend their Club the day their class is offered.
Music has a proven, lasting, positive impact on young people’s self-esteem, intellectual development and academic performance. As many public schools are forced to cut music education, we hope to instill a love and appreciation for the art of making music to as many members as possible.
Local musician, Casey Stratton, has been hired to lead this exciting new program. Casey is a singer/songwriter/producer who has recorded 12 albums and has released even more EPs and B-side collections over the last 15 years.
Club members give back!
October 11th, 2012
Staff and Club members from all three Clubs joined together to pick up trash around the Gerald R. Ford School playground and up and down the sidewalks of Madison Ave. With breakfast and a snack, the youth were fueled to give back to their local community. We were able to fill three garbage cans to the brim. How are you giving back to your community?
