ALDI gives back in celebration of new store

September 6th, 2011

Beginning Tuesday, September 13, 2011, ALDI will offer grocery shoppers a smarter alternative as the select assortment discount grocer opens a new location in Grand Rapids at 3101 Knapp Street NE. Known for its premium ALDI select brands, ALDI offers high-quality grocery items at unbeatable prices.

“We are pleased to bring this location to Grand Rapids to help customers stretch their grocery dollars further,” said J.T. Branneman, ALDI Webberville division director of operations. “ALDI consistently delivers value to our customers by providing high-quality products at prices well below the competition. When people try our ALDI select brands, they quickly realize they don’t have to sacrifice great taste for incredible savings.”

ALDI will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Grand Rapids store on Monday, September 12, 2011, in which the public is invited to attend to sample ALDI select brands, tour the new store and shop for their favorite grocery items. Additionally, attendees can enter for a chance to win one of five $100 ALDI gift certificates in an on-site raffle.

In celebration of the new store and the company’s ongoing commitment to the Grand Rapids community, ALDI will be donating $5,000 worth of snacks to the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth to support the organization’s “Family Night” activities at the Seidman and Steil locations on September 27 and October 26, 2011.

“We are excited to be able to support the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth in their efforts to cultivate a developmentally rich environment for our community’s youth,” said Branneman. At ALDI, we strive to provide community members with the best possible value, and look forward to working with an organization that adds value to the lives of our country’s future leaders.”

Customers can expect to find more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased items sold under ALDI select brands for prices up to 50 percent less than traditional supermarkets. A model of efficiency, ALDI eliminates overhead costs by offering smart, efficient practices, such as a grocery cart deposit system, through which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart’s return. Other cost-saving practices include a smaller store layout, open carton displays and encouraging the use of ALDI reusable shopping bags.

ALDI also saves shoppers money by keeping stores open during prime shopping times. The new Grand Rapids store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. ALDI accepts cash, debit and EBT cards as forms of payment.

A grocery retailer that has grown without merger or acquisition, ALDI plans to open more than 80 stores in the US in 2011.
