150th Anniversay of the Gettysburg Address

April 24th, 2014

Ken Burns, along with numerous partners, is doing a project to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address and has launched a national effort to encourage everyone in America to record a video of themselves reciting/reading the speech. We thought we'd get in on the action! Check out our 2014 Youth of the Year Raymond King reciting the Address as well as Staff member Chris Wilson. Four score and seven years ago... Learn more about the "Learn the Address" project here.

April's Youth of the Month!

April 21st, 2014

Our Youth of the Month (YOM) program spotlights a Club member who truly represents the mission of our Clubs. Staff will decide on a YOM based on their involvement in different activities and behavior. It is a program that helps to build our participation in the national Youth of the Year program.

Congratulations to April's Youth of the Month Winners:

Seidman Club: Milliana
Why Staff Selected Milliana: Milliana is an outstanding Club member and young lady who is always willing to help out at Seidman Club. She is a joy to be around and brings joy to those around her.

Paul I. Phillips Club: Abbi
Why Staff Selected Abbi: Abbi has a laugh and smile that is contagious. Everyday she greets each staff with a smile and hug. She's the first to ask to help and always on top of taking care of things before asked.

Steil Club: Jonathan
Why Staff Selected Jonathan: Jonathan is a great asset to Boys & Girls Club, especially in the past few weeks as he has been helping with our cooking class and photography/film club. Not only has he stepped up to help with these programs, but he has begun to show pride in his work. It is exciting to watch Jonathan grow and mature within the Steil Club and see his face light up when he accomplishes something on his own.

Spring Break Legoland

April 11th, 2014

Lego education provides kids with fun and engaging math and science lessons. Currently, our Club members have learned about simple machines with our Legos. Members had to predict what type of car would go down an incline plane the furthest.  Then, we tested our results by building the cars in the gym and taking measurements. We recorded our data after each run by measuring the distance in inches. We are having a great time learning during spring break!
