Internship Opportunities

Non-Profit Administration Intern

Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth offers the opportunity to enhance its mission through an internship in Non-Profit Administration. In this capacity, interns can take on a variety of behind-the-scenes challenges inherent to a growing non-profit. Example duties include composing promotional materials, making key telephone contacts, writing articles, securing donations and reviewing professional development materials. Benefits to the intern and the Clubs are numerous. Interns have the benefit of an initiative-friendly work environment, variety of assignment and first-hand experience. Our interns work with the Executive Director, Marketing Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator. One or more of these personnel is charged with being a staff-mentor to the intern, helping them satisfy the requirements of their institution, if applicable. This is an unpaid internship, but academic credit can be earned.

Programs Intern

Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth offers the opportunity to become deeply involved with its mission through a semester-long program internship in a specified core area. Program Interns assume many functions identical to those of volunteers in the same core areas but their roles differ in key ways. Under the guidance of a staff mentor, Program Interns are involved with the planning of program activities. Program Interns also commit more time than most volunteers and, thus, come to become integral team members who attend staff meetings. Additionally, our interns must take appropriate strides to satisfy the academic requirements of their institution, if applicable, and complete periodic evaluations that help the organization better understand how to best utilize interns. The Clubs welcome students of all disciplines but especially encourages those whose major field of study relates clearly to a core area of club programming such as elementary education, health education, art education, recreation, social work, etc. This is an unpaid internship, but academic credit can be earned.
